Aamir Darr, the founder worked professionally as an advisor, researcher and trainer in equalities within local government and further education. He also currently works as a consultant raising attainment amongst disadvantaged groups, increasing parental engagement and fostering the skills of how we learn to live together through literature and art. We have been supplying multicultural resources since 1989.
We supply to the early years sector, schools, public libraries, teacher training centres and many other institutions across the UK. We now trade online only but regularly make school visits, attend conferences and other meetings.
We work with national organisations involved in the cutting edge of EAL, community cohesion, new arrivals, school linking, SMSC etc. We seek to address British Values through an inclusive strategy that recognises the contribution of all communities to the development of all that is best in our society.
For a school to be considered outstanding within the inspection framework OFSTED requires that ‘Teachers are quick to challenge stereotypes and the use of derogatory language in lessons and around the school. Resources and teaching strategies reflect and value the diversity of pupils’ experiences and provide pupils with a comprehensive understanding of people and communities beyond their immediate experience’.
Our resources reflect the diversity of experience both within the UK and globally, raising self esteem by highlighting material relevant to a child’s background and inspiring a love of learning about the wider world. This helps to hone the skills needed to interact respectfully with differing cultures with material that excites through the power of its authenticity and stunning design.
Books are sourced from North America, the Indian Sub-continent, the Caribbean as well as the best of general and independent publishing in the UK. Our book displays are used at many conferences and training events. School visits can also be arranged.
We cover the following areas at both primary, secondary and adult level:
Art, biography, dictionaries, dual text resources, geography, junior/teenage fiction, folk tales, history, citizenship/phse, politics, religion (a large range on Islam), picture books and poetry.
We can arrange author and artist visits linked to our ground breaking project ‘Kahani’.
We are able visit schools to show stock as well as attending conferences and other meetings. Selecting material for a new library or project ensures that children they feel ownership for reading and this spirit cascades through to other pupils. Children are encouraged to find their own voice through story. Once they are confident in their heritage their imagination is liberated and knows no boundaries.
Gift cards or books can be purchased as rewards or to mark significant achievement.
